Documentary drama by Edward Radzinsky «the Last night of the last Tsar» will be performed in the concert hall named after P. I. Tchaikovsky on September 27. Premiere of a musical one-man show about the death of Nicholas II will be held in the framework of the IX the Big festival RNO the 100th anniversary of the 1917 revolution. The play will be accompanied by the Russian national orchestra under the baton of conductor Vladislav Lavrik and chamber choir of the Moscow Conservatory. In an interview with RIA Novosti, the writer and broadcaster Edward Radzinsky told about how this project was born.

Now the audience had the unique opportunity to hear the play performed by the Radzinsky at the concert hall named after Tchaikovsky. For a writer this is not the first experience of reading his works with musical accompaniment. «Last night last Tsar» will be the second such project, but not the last, says the author.

«This play is for me part of the theater, which I now want to do. This is my own theatre, my own plays that I do. I had already made with the same orchestra «Mystery of Mozart». Then I performed this piece with the choir and orchestra in St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg, and this experience proved to me beautiful and fascinating. I can’t shake this amazing feeling when music is connected with the word,» said Radzinsky.

Since when was the piece, there was new documentary evidence, and the author has it altered. The audience of the concert hall named after Tchaikovsky will hear it in the latest version.

«During this time I came back to this thread constantly, and I play heavily rewritten, because it is a documentary, and some of the things I have been presented differently. And I wanted to read it in this version,» explains Radzinsky.
The author does not disclose, under what musical works would be to read the play.

«The musical component is very important here, but I feel sorry for uncover specific products. Let the audience hear it for the first time and will not be ready, or be prepared for the fact that they will be invited because the work is very complicated. This is a documentary drama and at the same time the investigation,» said Radzinsky.

During a speech will be shown photographs and documents from the State archive of Russia, and also from the archives of Yekaterinburg and Perm.

«The documents and letters quoted in the piece are original, and the version that I propose, based on the documents. I’m doing this primarily for myself because it is still very much in this shot remains incomprehensible to me. I can’t leave. The book of Nicholas I ended with the words «I’ll never finish this book», and this phrase, written almost three decades ago, was for me a prophetic,» says Radzinsky.

The author noted that he would try to convey to the public the idea of forgiveness, which was documented in the book «the Life and death of Nicholas II» and thanks to which the book became an international bestseller, but were not immediately accepted by the reader.

«When I first printed a note Yurovsky (the chekist who directed the execution of the Royal family. — Approx. ed.) and the testimony of participants in the shooting, was a barrage of letters from readers, where they offered to dig out the graves of the regicides, the letters were full of hate for those who did. Then I realized that to print the book in pieces, it is necessary to publish it in its entirety to read its main idea — the idea of forgiveness, which resulted in a letter to one of the daughters of Nicholas: «the Emperor asked not to avenge him, he forgave all and all are praying.» I’m afraid that since then, little has changed, but it’s my job to make the audience understand the idea of play, I for the and go on stage,» said Radzinsky.
