Earlier, the Spanish newspaper El País published two articles in which he accused a number of Russian media, including RT, Sputnik, RIA Novosti, biased coverage of events in Catalonia. The author of the article believes that «the machine to spread false news that Russia has used to weaken the United States and the European Union, began to operate at full power in Catalonia».

«This is absolute nonsense. The second is this, you know, Western fashion trend, fashion which went, as you know, from overseas, and a number of European countries wants this trend to remain,» — said Martynov in the course of the round table in MIA «Russia today», answering an appropriate question.

«Spain also wants to be in the mainstream, and this theme is. This topic it’s not ours and not even Spanish. It’s a story of the global media,» — said Martynov.

In turn, the Russian Ambassador in Spain Yuri Korchagin expressed the view that attempts to accuse the Russian media of biased coverage of the situation around Catalonia, as well as to find in it the «hand of the Kremlin», is absolutely untrue. According to him, «all this is a complete mess, to which the «hand of Moscow» even disgusting to touch.»
