The President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaite in the framework of the EU summit on digital technologies in Tallinn suggested to create cybernetic rapid reaction forces of the EU, said on Friday the press service of the presidential Palace.

«You need to create a cybernetic rapid reaction forces of the EU, which would provide prompt response to cyber attacks and strengthen prevention,» said Grybauskaite at the summit.

She also presented the proposal of Lithuania on the creation of «cybernetic Schengen area» in Europe. «We need not only to exchange information but to protect themselves, so cybersecurity should be an integral part of EU policy in the field of security and defense. In addition, it is important to develop technologies identify and neutralize cyber threats,» said the President.

Previously, in early September, a proposal was made during a meeting of defense Ministers of countries-EU members in Tallinn. The participants then paid special attention to the establishment of a permanent structured military cooperation (PESCO) and the establishment of a European defence Fund.

As claimed by the presidential Palace, according to the European Commission, if EU will not be able to adequately reflect cyber threats, the European economy may suffer losses in the amount of 640 billion euros. One global cyber attack can cause as much damage as hurricane Katrina in the amount of $ 120 billion.
