The government of Myanmar invites UN Secretary-General antónio Guterres to visit the country and Rakhine state, which last month left several hundred thousand representatives of the ethnic Rohingya, said the national security Advisor of Myanmar U Thaung Tun.

Guterres said Thursday about the need to ensure conditions for the return to Myanmar of Rohingya refugees who fled the violence in the country.

«Representatives of the diplomatic corps in Yangon, accompanied by journalists will visit the Northern state of Rakhine on Monday. They will have the opportunity to get first-hand information about the situation on the ground. I’m happy to note that the government of Myanmar has extended an invitation to the Secretary-General and the Deputy Secretary-General to visit Myanmar. We hope to welcome them soon,» said the national security Advisor on Myanmar at a meeting of the UN Security Council on the situation in the country.

On the eve of the representative of the UN Secretary-General stéphane Dujarric announced on Thursday the planned visit of heads of some departments of the UN in Northern Rakhine state, which was organized by the government of the country. But on Thursday, it was announced that the postponed visit.
