The present referendum in Catalonia will not actually be head of the Center for Iberian studies of the Institute of Europe RAS Vladimir Vernikov.

«The referendum itself will not take place in principle because there are a number of elements, which works against the very concept of recognition results: no qualification, no lists, no ballots, no commissions will be calculated. All. You can vote ten times. It all turns out absolutely groundless», — he said during the round table in MIA «Russia today».

«I believe it will soon calm down, because no legal force a referendum will not have. But this is very bad for Spain and for the European community, because investments in that part of Spain which is restless, will not come,» — said Vernikov.

The government of Catalonia is going to hold the 1st of October, the referendum on independence, which does not recognize the Spanish government. Spain’s constitutional court suspended all documents regarding the vote taken by Generalitat and the Catalan Parliament. Thus, the court declared all further actions of the Catalan authorities on the preparation of the referendum illegal. The General Prosecutor of Catalonia, josé maría Romero de Tejada ordered the law enforcement agencies of the Autonomous community to seize the ballot boxes, ballots and voter lists on the day of the referendum.

According to polls, the independence of Catalonia supports 41% of the population of the Autonomous community, 49% oppose. For a referendum on the status of the Autonomous community are 80% of Catalans, but most of them believe that the conduct of the voting must be agreed with the Central authorities in Madrid.
