The shop «Height 239» Chelyabinsk pipe rolling plant is more like an elite clinic than on the premises of metallurgical enterprises: clean laminate floors, flowers in vases, employees and those all in white. There’s no fire, no smoke, no dust. So in the Russian industry starts to work, the concept of a White metal, whose goal is the transformation of the working environment.

In addition to the «Altitude 239», CTRP has launched three modern complex: «ETERNO» in Chelyabinsk, finishing centre and «Iron Ozone 32» in Pervouralsk. In these «white» shops, the company is implementing a new corporate policy. «The basis of our production system and philosophy we took the idea of the Japanese company Toyota, − says the managing Director of Pervouralsk new pipe plant (PNTZ), a part of CHTPZ Group, Alexey Dronov. − It consists of five elements: the safety of employees and the environment, clear procedures, appropriate equipment, self-training and continuous self-improvement. Our employees have to do their job a little better than yesterday and slightly better than them now.»

The average salary of the employee in the enterprise is 40 of 200 rubles. Alexander Litvinenko 23 years and for the posts of head of service of industrial automation he receives a salary no less than the lead Bank Manager or a good web designer. During his studies he participated in competitions of the Association working professions WorldSkills, making it drew attention in the CTRP. «The students at the beginning of training, it is believed that a metallurgical plant is a black pair of overalls and dirty hands, − says Alexander. − However, having been in practice, they see that it really is high-tech manufacturing that the plant itself, like a living organism, constantly changing and that there are no grey monotonous work.»

Holding CHTPZ on the basis of Pervouralsk metallurgical College has launched an educational program «the Future of White metallurgy» which students can enroll after the ninth grade. Future machinists and welders learn two and a half years, specialists in metal processing, installation and maintenance for nearly four years. After the release of any obligation to the company have no students − may choose to go work in a factory or in any other place.

Valerie Prokudina 20 years. This year she graduated from Pervouralsk metallurgy College on a speciality «Processing of metals by pressure». «In ninth grade I had to choose: stay in school or go to College. I chose the latter. Then as time began to develop the program «the Future of White metallurgy», and the name − White steel − sounds nice − says Valery. − It is believed that those who go after the ninth grade, simply run from the exam. In my case it was not so: in school I studied without the «triplets» and let me go not wanted.» Now the girl is studying at the correspondence Department of the Ural Federal University named after Yeltsin in Yekaterinburg and probation in the home College. «A lot of guys after school go to Yekaterinburg, get higher education and parallel work in the factory,» says Valeria.

Industry is facing a critical shortage of personnel: in the country an overabundance of lawyers, economists, journalists, but not the working professional. According to Rosstat, in five years, the number of people employed in industry has decreased by 5% to 926 000 in 2015, even despite the fact that the average salary of employees grew by a third. In steel mills the number of departures of employees exceeds the number of admissions to work: in 2015, this difference amounted to as much as 20,000 people. People go into medicine, service sector, Economics and Finance. Compared to manufacturing industries the situation is worse only in agriculture.

According to the same Rosstat, in 15 years the number of organizations that train skilled workers, decreased by five times by 2015, there were only 747. Therefore, companies try to provide for own staff: invest in education and create for students the most favorable conditions, then to get young professionals to your plant. Russian major steel companies began to create their own «source of manpower». Scheme, when companies implement their programs and create their own educational centers, very similar to the Soviet system in which the colleges and schools were tied to state-owned enterprises and provided them with workers.

Ilya Rastegaeva 24 years. At Pervouralsk new pipe plant he works in 2013 and in parallel gets higher vocational education in Yekaterinburg. «I liked in College: knowledgeable staff, location close to home, good library and computer classes, a lot of sporting events. With the beginning of the program «the Future of White metallurgy» in the building, made repairs, built a new building at the factory, came new teachers,» — says Ilya. In Pervouralsk, in addition to College, especially not: many students either leave after ninth grade or after high school to move to Yekaterinburg. «Problems with the students at the College there,» — says Ilya.

Most of the shops CHTPZ working since the Soviet times, built «from scratch» systems until four. Graduates will work there. Today, out of 545 graduates of the educational centre at the plant employs about 250 people.

The idea to create their own educational centers have taken root in other enterprises: Ural metallurgical company UMMC in 2013 rebuilt in Verkhnyaya Pyshma (Sverdlovsk region) private private University. Students 15 smaller Russian cities where there are enterprises of UMMC, come to study in the Top Pyshma, in order then to continue working in the company in a new capacity. UMMC is working with government institutions − for example, the same University that prepares graduates for a wide range of specialties.
