The U.S. and North Korea may soon start new negotiations on the settlement of the nuclear issue, as it was in 1994 in Geneva, expects the former head of South Korean delegation at six-party talks on the DPRK Lee soo Hyuk.

Popular South Korean monthly magazine «Synthon» («New East Asia») published in the last October issue interview in which Lee soo Hyuk, who is considered a participant in the development of the foreign policy of the President of South Korea, moon Jae-In, said about the possibility of imminent beginning of the «second season» of the US in dialogue with the DPRK.

«I called 1994 agreed at the talks in Geneva, as well as the four-party talks 1997 «first season». In 2017, apparently, will open the «second season» to resolve the North Korean nuclear issue,» said Lee soo Hyuk.

According to him, can begin a «new negotiations in Geneva, the new four-party talks, and at some point will have held six-party talks».

«The United States will not stop at freezing the nuclear program of North Korea», — said Lee soo Hyuk. He recalled that in 1994 in Geneva provided for the freezing and ultimately the abandonment of the DPRK nuclear weapons.

The United States and North Korea held the first dialogue in Geneva, agreement was reached on Pyongyang’s refusal of the development of nuclear weapons at an experimental reactor at Yongbyon in return for the construction of an international consortium of new nuclear plants for light water reactors. After three years of negotiations South Korea, DPRK, USA and China.

It was under us President bill Clinton, however, the coming to power of U.S. President George W. Bush in 2001 has led to a shift in Washington and the abandonment of the project of nuclear power plants in the DPRK.

North Korea included Bush in a list of countries the «axis of evil» along with Iraq and Syria has resumed its nuclear program.

In 2003 in Beijing was launched on the six-party talks at the level of Deputy foreign Ministers of Russia, USA, China, Japan, South Korea and the DPRK itself. They were able to reach mutually acceptable agreements about how to rid Pyongyang of the necessary nuclear developments, but the nomination of the United States and Japan demands that had no relation to the subject, led to the breakdown of dialogue. In the end, instead of getting rid of nuclear weapons, the DPRK, the world got a country that, despite the tough sanctions the UN security Council conducts nuclear tests and launches of ballistic missiles has entered a new nuclear crisis on the Korean Peninsula.
