The Prosecutor General’s office of Kyrgyzstan opened a criminal case against the MP Kanatbek Isayev, who was allegedly preparing a violent seizure of power in case of loss, at the election of the presidential candidate Omurbek Babanov, reported on Saturday the press service of the Supervisory authority of the Republic.
The presidential term of incumbent President of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev ends on 1 December this year and, according to the Constitution, he cannot re-run for President. Elections are scheduled for October 15. In the presidential race are currently 12 officially registered candidates from 59 declared intention to become President. Ex-Prime Minister Omurbek Babanov is one of the strongest contenders the presidential candidate of the party of the social democratic party of Sooronbay Zheenbekov.
«The General Prosecutor of the Kyrgyz Republic initiated a criminal case against a Deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh (unicameral Parliament) Kanatbek Isayev on signs of the crimes provided by articles 27 (preparation of a crime), 233 (mass disorder) and 295 (violent capture power or violent deduction power) of the Criminal code of the Kyrgyz Republic», — said the Prosecutor General.
According to her, the state Committee of national security of the country revealed that «Isaev, a supporter of a candidate for the office of President of the Kyrgyz Republic Babanov, entered into a preliminary agreement with certain persons, including representatives of organized criminal groups, carry out active actions aimed at organizing mass riots». «As the materials of the SCNS, they seek the violent seizure of power in the future, in case of defeat in the election of a specified candidate in the presidents of the Kyrgyz Republic», — reports the Agency. The secret service said that the supporters Babanov was prepared in advance «provocation followed by escalation in riots and armed clashes».
The criminal case was transferred to the national security Committee of the Republic for the organization of the investigation, according to prosecutors.
