Head of Academy of Sciences intends to discuss with Putin the support of research infrastructure

The head of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Sergeyev said in an interview with RIA Novosti that a new meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin wants to discuss the possibility of establishing a special Fund to support scientific infrastructure.

In late September, Sergeyev was elected as the new head of the Academy of Sciences. In his election program Sergeev, in particular, spoke of the need for tool re-equipment of Russian science, and proposed to create a special Fund through the imposition of a «tax on knowledge» to be levied on profits raw state corporations and major companies considering the fact that their current income secured by the labors and discoveries of domestic science in the recent past.

After the election of the head of the RAS held a meeting with Putin, Sergeyev, on which was discussed about strategy of scientific and technological development of Russia and role of the Academy of Sciences in it.

In an interview with the Agency Sergeyev said that the issue of Fund it «necessarily raise» at the next meeting with the President of the country.

«It’s a question for our science is very painful especially in terms of fundamental research. For in their success you must have the most modern tools. If you do not, your colleagues abroad, it is, none of you on this celebration of life generate new knowledge», — said Sergeev.
