Kiev’s decision to prohibit conduct in the country of Russian banknotes, depicting views of the Crimea, will only hurt the economy of Ukraine, said first Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on economic policy Sergey Kalashnikov.

On Friday, the national Bank of Ukraine reported that prohibits banks and other financial institutions in the country to carry out operations with banknotes and coins of the Russian Federation with the image of the objects located in the Crimea, including currency exchange. Also, they and «Ukrpochta» it is forbidden to accept or give such money in the exercise or payment of transfers. Views of Crimea represented on the new banknote denomination of 200 rubles, which on Thursday unveiled the Bank of Russia. On the front side of the banknote is the monument to the scuttled ships in Sevastopol, on the back – with views of the Chersonese.

«This is nonsense, because it will cause damage to Ukraine itself. The country is interested in receiving any currency, including the ruble as Ukraine itself sets the exchange rate in the country and get a good margin,» said Kalashnikov.

He also noted that the decision of the national Bank of Ukraine will not affect economic relations with Russia as «the ruble is not a currency in mutual settlements of Russia and Ukraine».

This decision could potentially complicate the life of Russians traveling to Ukraine, but they were accustomed to when traveling abroad to bring foreign currency, he added.
