Kiev has demanded from the Secretary General of the Council of Europe thorbjørn Jagland to sue Russia, said the head of the Ukrainian delegation to PACE Vladimir Aryev.

«The PACE Bureau from Jagland today demanded a tough stance in the negotiations in Moscow, and in General to sue the Russian Federation for nonpayment of dues,» wrote Aryev on his page on Facebook.

Previously, he stated that Ukraine will try to avoid the restoration of the powers of the Russian delegation in PACE.

Russia from 2016 sends the documents required for accreditation of its delegation to the PACE, as in 2014 and 2015 the Russian Parliament was deprived of voting rights at the sessions and opportunities to participate in the work of the statutory bodies of the Assembly because of the position on the Crimea.

This summer, Russia has suspended the payment of the contribution to the budget of the Council of Europe to complete the restoration of the powers of the national delegation. At the same time Moscow continues to fulfil its commitments made at earlier conventions of the Council. PACE Russia’s decision called an «unprecedented problem.»

As stated by the permanent representative of Russia to the EU Vladimir Chizhov, in January the Council of Europe may be the last opportunity to bring the voice of the Russian delegation in PACE.
