The Deputy kiyevo-Pechersky monastery the Metropolitan Vyshgorodsky and Chernobyl Paul made an appeal to all Orthodox Christians, in which he asked for their prayer support in the coming days. Earlier it was reported that in the monastery fear attacks by radicals.

«Believers of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church is concerned about the situation, which is pumped around the main Shrine of Ukraine — the Holy Dormition Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra in the last days. Metropolitan Paul appeals to all the faithful children of the Church of Christ asking for prayer support these days,» — said in a message posted Friday on the website of the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate.

Earlier, the vicar sent a letter to the authorities of Ukraine, including heads of law enforcement agencies, to protect the monastery from possible attack by radicals on October 14-17, when in Kiev will host a variety of events and rallies. Last year on October 14 in the city held a «March of a nation», which involved operating in Ukraine nationalist organization. Then near the monastery gathered 400-500 people in balaclavas which insulted believers and threw stones in the direction of the monastery.

«If you are believers, do not do evil to those who believe. Because the time will come, whether you like it or not, you will meet with Christ, and you will have to answer for their deeds and actions in life on earth,» said Metropolitan Paul in his address.

He recalled that Kiev-Pechersk Lavra is «Third is the inheritance of the blessed virgin Mary», which is under its special protection. For centuries the monastery experienced a «different kind of temptation and assault» after the defeat of the enemy, the monastery fell into decay, but again and again revived. «I do not want to prevent recurrence of the terrible events of godless atheistic days when demolished churches, destroyed monasteries. Today, history repeats itself. But we must remember that those who destroyed the shrines and mocked the Holy things — they had a terrible fate. Do not repeat the mistakes of the past,» warned the Governor.

He urged not to use the great Christian holiday – the Intercession of the Holy virgin – «to meet their any ambitions – protests, rallies, excesses». «Do not raise your «authority» escalate the situation around the great shrines and sowing confusion in the hearts of the people. I encourage everyone to promote peace and ask for one — do not do excesses. Remember that «they that take the sword perish by the sword». We pray for our country, for Orthodox and non-Orthodox. We want our country peace, prosperity and all blessings,» the letter reads.

Ukraine currently operates the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC-MP), which is a self-governing Church of the Moscow Patriarchate, and unrecognized by the world Orthodox Church structures — the Kyiv Patriarchate (UOC KP) and Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church (UAOC). While the UOC-MP has repeatedly reported on cases of harassment of priests and seizures of the Orthodox churches representatives of the UOC-KP.
