More than 400 American millionaires and billionaires, including financier George Soros, has decided to send Congress a letter asking legislators not to cut their taxes, writes the Chicago Tribune.

According to them, the government makes the mistake of deciding to reduce the tax rate for the wealthy families of the country. In his letter, rich lawyers, businessmen, and doctors are urging Congress not to adopt tax laws that will only aggravate the situation with a state debt of the USA and «further increase inequality.»

The authors of the letter believe that they should pay more taxes. The initiator of the appeal was the unification of Responsible Wealth, advocating for progressive changes. Among the signatories to the letter were the founders of the ice-cream brand Ben&Jerry’s Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, fashion designer Eileen Fisher philanthropist Steven Rockefeller.

«I believe that a tax cut is absurd. To say that we can’t afford to waste money but can afford the lower tax rates for rich people. This makes no sense,» said the former head of American Airlines Robert Crandall, also signed the letter.

Earlier this month, the U.S. house of representatives and the Senate unveiled a new tax projects. It is expected that they will be accepted and will be at the presidential table for Christmas. Senate project involves reducing the tax rates for people with incomes over 500 thousand dollars, from the current 39.6 percent to 38.5 percent.
