The adoption by Ukraine of the law on the state language only reinforce the division in society and will lead to escalation of aggression, the leader of the public movement «the Ukrainian choice — the right of the people» Viktor Medvedchuk.

Earlier, the head of the Ukrainian Institute of national memory Vladimir vyatrovich said that after the adoption of the law on education the next step towards Ukrainization should be a document on the state language. This document has previously been submitted to the Parliament, it stipulates that the Ukrainian language is the only official language and should be applied in all spheres of state and public life and in the media. It also introduces the requirement of state language proficiency in obtaining Ukrainian citizenship.

«Pseudo-Patriotic frenzy that viatrovych himself proudly calls «the process of Ukrainization», Ukrainian Institute of national memory and announces the adoption of the law on the state language. The impact of the adoption of this law can be predicted now: new break line, new centers of opposition, a new round of escalation of aggression in society», — quotes the comment of Medvedchuk’s press service.

In January the Parliament, there have been several versions of «language» laws. All they implied raising the status of Ukrainian as the state language. But the deputies did not reach consensus, and the laws were not adopted.

In Ukraine in 2012 was adopted the law on principles of state language policy, which provided for the possibility of official use of the Russian language as a regional in 13 of 27 regions of the country. After a coup in Ukraine in 2014, the Verkhovna Rada invalidated the law in 2012, but that decision provoked unrest in the South and South-East of the country, and at that time the acting President Oleksandr Turchynov refused to sign the decision of Parliament.
