Russia may take part in the construction of the railway in the Philippines

The government of the Philippines and the Russian Federation consider Russia’s participation in the construction of the railway on the largest island of the Philippines Northern Luzon, said the press-Secretary of Ministry of transport of the Philippines, Lea Chambao (Leah Quiambao).

The statement was made following the meeting of the Minister of transport of the Philippines Arthur Tugade and Minister of transport of Russia Maxim Sokolov. The Russian delegation headed by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev is in Manila, where the event is held in the framework of the 31st ASEAN summit.

«Russia’s participation will begin with the awarding of the grant to prepare a feasibility study of the project», — quote local mass-media the statement of the representative of the Philippine Ministry of transport. According to her, it is expected that the experience of the Russian side will be used in the construction of the main railway section with a length of 86 kilometers, and the secondary is 60 kilometers. She noted that at this stage while no exact dates and amounts with respect to the Russian participation were not discussed.

In addition, as the message of Ministry of transport of the Russian Federation, the Russian side is interested in cooperation with the Philippines in the development of transport infrastructure projects in the sphere of railway traffic and the network of cable cars.

It is also noted that the parties stressed the possibility of cooperation on a number of projects using the global navigation satellite system (GNSS) in the transport region. In particular, the creation of systems of control and effective management of municipal transportation, safety of passengers, construction of system of paid roads.

«In the field of air traffic management, the Russian side proposed to the Philippine colleagues to consider the possibility of establishing a Manila airport system GBAS LCCS-A-200 (Local monitoring and correcting station A-2000) in a steady performance to ensure accurate positioning and landing of aircraft, as well as the three airports of the Philippines a similar system in compact execution», — stated in the message.
