Lenin monument dismantled in the urban-type settlement of Shabo in Odessa region of Ukraine, reported on the website of the public organization «Free people» in Facebook.

«Activists of the village of Shabo in Odessa region, together with the «Free people. Odessa» and Maidan Self-defense of Odessa» dismantled the monument to Lenin» — said in the message. The organization also publishes photos from the place where it is clear that the activists piled bust of Lenin from the pedestal.

Earlier, the Director of the Ukrainian Institute of national memory Vladimir vyatrovich said that almost 2.5 thousand monuments in Ukraine was demolished in the framework of decommunization, including more than 1,3 thousand monuments to Lenin.

From may 2015 the law of Ukraine «about the condemnation of the Communist and Nazi regimes» prohibiting propaganda of Soviet symbols. It implies, in particular, the renaming of cities and streets named after Soviet statesmen.

Institute of naramata published the list, which includes 520 historical figures whose activities are subject to the law of «decommunisation», and therefore, their names should disappear from geographical names. The document caused a great resonance in society, as it was not clearly spelled out the limits of its use.
