Russian President Vladimir Putin welcomed the participants of the festive events devoted to the 300 anniversary of the Russian and Novo-Nakhichevan diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church, noting that it became a true spiritual centre for thousands of people.

«I welcome you in Moscow on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the Russian and Novo-Nakhichevan diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church, one of the oldest Christian churches in the world», — is spoken in the corresponding telegram published on the Kremlin website.

Putin also stressed the importance of the contribution of the diocese in the strengthening of the traditionally friendly and good neighbourly relations, which for centuries linked the peoples of Russia and Armenia.

The Russian President noted that «beginning his story in the distant 1717, joined the Diocese of the Armenian Church that existed on the territory of Russia, became a true spiritual centre for thousands of people, a critical factor in the savings culture of the Armenian people, its customs and traditions.»

For centuries the Diocese performs an important humanistic, educational and charitable mission, genuinely cares about the approval of the society’s enduring moral values, ideals of peace, goodness and justice, Putin said.

The diocese pays attention to the education of the younger generation and the development of a fruitful dialogue with the Russian Orthodox Church, representatives of other traditional religions of Russia, said the head of the Russian Federation. The President also added that «this multifaceted work deserves deep respect and recognition».
