Vice President Ecuador will appear before court

Removed from his post as Vice-President of Ecuador Jorge Glas will stand trial on charges of organizing a corruption scheme involving the Brazilian construction company Odebrecht.

This decision was made on Tuesday by judge Miguel Jurado, according to the portal Comercio. The investigation believes that the Voice can get kickbacks and bribes from Odebrecht for the contract, which the company won in Ecuador. In total on business pass, in addition to Voice, another 12 people, including his uncle.

According to prosecutors, the Voice could get about us $ 13.5 million in bribes from the Brazilian company for the transfer of five government contracts in strategic sectors of the economy.

In late October the Voice was dismissed from the post of Vice-President by the decision of the Supreme audit office of the country. This happened after the 30-day period within which he could present evidence of his innocence in the violations of the law at the conclusion of a corruption scandal caused the agreement to develop an oil block in Ecuador.

In early October, the Voice was placed under arrest at the request of the General Prosecutor’s office. The Voice said that he would not abscond, as he considers himself innocent.
