Russia and the EU are interested in how to ensure security throughout Eurasia, Russia could help Europe to get out from under the influence of the United States, to regain their own identity and restore the role of the global geopolitical player, said Director of the foreign intelligence Service of the Russian Federation Sergey Naryshkin.

He spoke on Thursday in Moscow at the international conference dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Institute of Europe of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

«Russia and the European Union need each other, especially in the face facing us in the current phase of challenges and tasks. We are interested in how to ensure all Eurasia peace and security, harmonious development and prosperity of countries and peoples,» Naryshkin said.

«Today the Pro-Western part of Europe faces a choice — to continue in the Wake of American geopolitics, with the risk of completely losing their own identity, or return to itself, to gain geopolitical subjectivity and shared with other global players, including Russia, to build a truly multi-polar, stable and democratic world order,» — said the Director of the SVR.

Russia could to help Europe, said Naryshkin. «At least, because our country has retained the Christian based values that Europe itself is in some part already lost. Russia saved them and Europe. It’s kind of a return we have a historic debt and at the same time recognition of the great contributions of European civilization development of humankind, as well as in Russian history and culture,» he said.
