The possibility of introducing a mandatory second round in the presidential elections in Russia, as well as any initiative can be discussed by the legislator, although in the world practice there are no mechanisms for elections in which voters essentially proposes to just re-vote, told RIA Novosti Secretary of the CEC, Maya Grishina.

LDPR leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky during a plenary meeting of the state Duma on Thursday has proposed to legislate a rule for the mandatory second round of the presidential elections in Russia.

«I think any initiative needs to be considered by the legislator, it produces the decision. But the first time I hear that system could be in a situation when the majority of votes in the election identified in the first round,» said Grishina, commenting on the initiative.

«Just offer to citizens, in essence, to re-vote – here in the sense of what is offered – such, in General, does not know the world practice. Still not very reasonably, in my opinion; but, Yes, can be discussed,» she added.

The CEC Secretary has confirmed that a second round of elections would necessarily imply additional costs.

Currently, according to the Federal law «About presidential elections of the Russian Federation» was considered elected the candidate who received more than 50% of the vote. A second vote on two candidates who received the highest number of votes possible in the case if the President claimed more than two people and none of them received the support of more than 50% of voters of the Russians.

Regular elections of the President of Russia will be held in March 2018, the campaign is supposed to start in December 2017.

We already know about plans to participate in the electoral campaign of the leader of LDPR Vladimir Zhirinovsky, one of the founders of the party «Yabloko» Grigory Yavlinsky. Communist party leader Gennady Zyuganov said that he, as leader of the Communist party, was nominated as the presidential candidate of all party organizations, but the final decision of the Congress.

The intention to run in the upcoming elections was announced by the TV host Ksenia Sobchak, who is positioning himself as the candidate «against all», the political scientist Andrey Bogdanov and one of the founders of the movement «Nashi» Boris Yakimenko. Also the candidates intend to nominate journalist Catherine Gordon, head of the Association of entrepreneurs for development of business of patriotism «Avanti» Rahman Yanakov, the leader of the party «Female dialogue» Elena Semerikova and the leader of movement «the Renaissance» Alexander Chukhlebov.
