Commemorative plaque in honor of the 110th anniversary of the Imperial Russian military historical society (RVIA) has opened in St. Petersburg on Saturday at the Museum of artillery, engineer and signal corps.

«In less than five years (the existence of society RVIA) we have installed more than 200 memorials and more than 2 thousand memorial plaques to famous historical figures and significant historical events. But this Board has special significance because it emphasizes the link of times», — said at the opening ceremony of the memorial sign, the Executive Director of RVIO Vladislav Kononov. He called the main result of the activities of the Russian military-historical society «return to history».

«The most important thing is to go back to history and stop being afraid of the word «propaganda». Drawing attention to the history of the country — this is perhaps the most important outcome of the work of the RVIA,» said Kononov reporters.

He reminded that earlier the building of the Museum of artillery was located, the governing bodies of the Imperial Russian military historical society.

The opening of the memorial plaque took place in the framework of the sixth Saint-Petersburg international cultural forum. Imperial Russian military historical society was one of the four Imperial societies, along with the Russian geographical society, Russian historical society and Orthodox Palestinian society. This organization had as its objective the unification of the Russian citizens to study and preserve information about military history, find locations of battles of the past, and the creation of military-historical museums. The Chairman of the Board of the Russian military-historical society was General Dmitry Skalon.

The Russian military-historical society recreated in 2012 with the decree of the President of the Russian Federation.

Sixth Saint-Petersburg international cultural forum will be held from 16 to 18 November. He has collected more than 30 thousand participants.
