Ankara will monitor measures to punish the persons implicated in the scandal, on NATO exercises in Norway, which was the reason for the review with them the Turkish military said in a statement the foreign Ministry of Turkey.

Earlier, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the organizers of the exercises put a stand with portraits of «enemies», one of them was a picture of the founder of the Turkish Republic Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the «enemies» were also included among the current Turkish leader. According to Erdogan, the head of the Turkish General staff told him what had happened and said he made the decision to revoke 40 Turkish soldiers participating in NATO exercises. The Turkish authorities supported this decision.

Apologies for any insults Turkey during a training exercise in Norway brought the NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and the Minister of defence of Norway Frank Bakke-Jensen expressed regret.

«Scandalous incident occurred during the NATO exercise «Drills spear» (Trident Javelin) 8 -17 Nov in Stavanger (Norway). In the scheme of exercises as a conventional adversaries was a photo of Ataturk. In addition, a closed network for participants of the exercise, it was reported that the President of Turkey was included in the list of leaders who cooperate with the enemies of the Alliance. Such steps are unacceptable and worthy of strong condemnation. Ankara will closely monitor measures to punish the individuals involved in this unacceptable incident,» — reads the statement of the Turkish foreign Ministry.

It is noted that in response to the scandalous incident Turkey has brought serious concerns to the leadership of NATO and the Norwegian authorities.
