The speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko offers to admit the victory over Nazism in the Second world war, the world heritage of mankind and to create an international registry of monuments to fighters against Nazism. This proposal can be directed to the UN and UNESCO, she said.

«Language, spiritual and cultural closeness of the peoples of Russia and Serbia is our common historical heritage. Without a doubt, centuries-old unity should be preserved and strengthened,» — said Matvienko on Monday, speaking in the Parliament of Serbia.

According to her, today, the protection of shared memory is becoming an increasingly urgent task. «In Europe, cases of destruction of memorials to the victims and heroes of the Second world war. In Ukraine and Poland, the destruction of monuments to the liberators became, in fact, an element of state policy», — said the speaker.

«I think it would be possible to work towards the recognition of the victory over Nazism in the Second world war, the world heritage of mankind and, accordingly, memorials and monuments to fighters against fascism in all countries of the world world war II memorial,» — said the MP.

Instrument for the implementation of this idea, in her opinion, can become «the creation of an international registry of monuments to fighters against Nazism». «It will allow to draw attention of world community to the actions of countries who want to wipe out the most important pages in the history of the 20th century, written in the blood of our ancestors», — said the speaker.

Matviyenko expressed concern about the attempts of glorification of Nazism, the organization torchlight processions. «Let’s discuss the possibility of recourse to the UN and UNESCO,» said the Senator.

According to Matvienko, the peoples of Russia and Serbia paid a high price for the cleansing of Europe and the world from Nazism and honor the memory of soldiers-winners.
