The Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill has predicted the approaching end of the world. He said this in his 71st birthday, after the divine Liturgy in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior.

According to the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church, humanity is included in the «critical development period», so all the people who cherish their homeland must unite. The Patriarch said that the naked eye can be seen as approaching «the terrible moments of history» described in the revelation of the Apostle and Evangelist John the theologian.

The head of the Russian Orthodox Church also recalled that, according to Christian creed, the timing of the sunset of mankind depends on the people themselves. In addition, in his opinion, the Russians should realize the responsibility for their country and the entire human race and to stop the «slide into the abyss of the end of history.»

In addition, the Patriarch told how the sin seeps into human life through art. He expressed confidence that if the theatre and cinema not aimed at the enrichment of the individual, that ultimately turn into «the weight» that prevent one from «take off».

«I mean, not all art, but which in recent years has said about some of his special role on the special rights of people to bear temptation and sin, to mislead the people», — said the head of the Russian Orthodox Church.

The Patriarch also said that many members of the intelligentsia are repeating the mistakes of predecessors, who, in his opinion, «brought the country to the death of the revolutionary events of 1917.» The Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church has urged «not to rock the boat of human passions» because people constantly have a detrimental effect, «destroying the spiritual life».

In addition, the Patriarch presented a collection of his thoughts and reasoning, covering 80 topics — from Church polity to postmodern and Ukraine. According to him, the book will be useful to everyone.

The restriction of freedom of person

Patriarch Kirill explained why the Church is in favour of a deliberate restriction of human freedom.

«Liberal interpretation of freedom and human rights implies the absolute sovereignty of the individual and his rights without moral context. From the point of view of Christianity, the error of secular humanism is that it ignores factors distorted the nature of man, his inclination to sin, the possibility of the use of freedom for evil as for the man himself and for the whole society,» — said the head of the Russian Orthodox Church.

In his opinion, such an understanding of rights and freedoms is unacceptable, since it is used for asserting notions of validity as social norms «such sinful examples as abortion, euthanasia and homosexualism».

«The legalization of sin»

Earlier Patriarch Kirill called on the Russian authorities and society to counteract the tendency to «legitimize sin.»

«Today we see what is happening in the world when the power of the law, the power of government implanted a terrible sin, and people who want to this sin to resist, just expressing their disagreement with wickedness can be punished,» — said the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church.

The Patriarch has reminded that Russia in ancient times was called Holy Rus, because of its people, «Holiness was the absolute moral ideal», which is not able to eradicate neither the 1917 revolution or the subsequent repression.

«I believe that, having passed a difficult way of the twentieth century, touching the persecution and trials, we have developed a certain immunity, a certain insensitivity to the devil’s temptations and the temptations,» — said the Patriarch.
«Mercy for sinners»

The head of the Russian Orthodox Church urged the priests to be merciful to people and to be more careful in their statements and assessments, or such members of the clergy may follow punishment.

The Patriarch commented on the cases of families who have lost young children, the priests tell them that the loss of a child is retribution «for sins.»

«If someone says that «for sins», then such a priest have the right to prohibit from serving. How can you? Don’t know with what heart and what head could be the priest to say so, an unhappy mother or father,» said the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church.
The Patriarch also noted that much depends on the personal state of the soul of the priest.

«If the soul is callous, and the answers are absolutely not viable, hard-hearted, unconvincing. And if the priest himself conceded the problems approached him, he produced the ability to formulate correct answers to questions. Because without this internal empathy our words will never be convincing,» he said.

The head of the Russian Orthodox Church stressed that his words apply to the whole «duhovniceasca practice,» including the pronouncing of sermons. The Patriarch said that if the priest is not going through itself what it preaches, it immediately becomes evident, and the sermon will not be able to «reach souls».

The Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church also added that the priest needs to say what «is the fruit of his experiences, reinforcing his words with a strong faith and love for people».
