Media: in Mexico killed the newly elected mayor of the city

The newly elected mayor of the city of Hidalgotitlan in the Mexican state of Veracruz Santana Cruz Baena was killed on Monday evening in his house by a group of unknown bandits, according to the portal Quadratin.

Several dozen armed men surrounded the mayor’s house and demanded that he went out into the street. He refused to do it, then the criminals broke the door and rushed inside. Together with the mayor and killed three of his bodyguards.

Cruz Baena was elected mayor from the party «New Alliance», he had to come into this position on December 31.

The state of Veracruz on the Gulf coast has long been a scene of confrontation between two powerful drug cartels, the «Los Zetas» and the «Bay». These two groups are vying to control the drug trafficking in the United States. Before «Los Zetas» was the military wing of the «Gulf Cartel», but in the middle of 2000-ies was separated as an independent criminal organization.
