The Grand theatre will present a New stage Wednesday, November 22, the new show of the season — Sergei Prokofiev’s ballet «Romeo and Juliet» staged by Alexei Ratmansky, on Tuesday held a dress rehearsal.

Together with the choreographer worked on the production of the author of scenography and costumes by Richard Hudson, lighting designer Jennifer Tipton, conductor Pavel Klinichev.

Ratmansky is resident choreographer of American ballet theatre — his own man at the Bolshoi, where from 2004 to 2009 he headed the ballet. Ratmansky has set on this stage not one play, some of them, such as «Bright path», «Flames of Paris», «Russian seasons», is still in the repertoire of the Bolshoi theatre and are very popular.

According to the head of the Bolshoi ballet Mahara Vazieva, play Ratmansky is very interesting, technically intense and emotional.

«Ratmansky has managed, on the one hand, to preserve itself, the era, and with another — create the dynamism with regard to its choreography, to give their interpretation of this timeless love story, the main thing that we have,» said Vaziev.

The title role of Romeo and Juliet dance of the ballerina Ekaterina Krysanova and Vladislav Prime Lantratov — dancers, whose career at the Bolshoi theatre began in the period of work here Ratmansky.

«Together with choreography by Ratmansky, I grew up in the theater, he raised me as a ballerina. His choreographic language is close to me and understandable,» — said on the eve of the premiere of Yekaterina Krysanova. «His choreography is very musical, it has a multitude of nuances — an inexhaustible ability to work and understand all the subtleties of his art,» she added.

«Alexei Ratmansky is the choreographer of the first that I noticed who started to work with me, I have very good, trusting relationships. And I’m glad that today he is in Moscow, at the Bolshoi theatre, and I have entrusted a role of the main character Romeo,» — said Vladislav Lantratov.

Not just beautiful choreography, which reflects every nuance of Prokofiev’s music, brilliant art artists, but also delights with its exquisite scenic beauty, which the Creator artist Richard Hudson.

«Getting to this job, I did a lot of research, studied books dedicated to the Renaissance in Italy,’ said Hudson. — I took a sample of the work of a symbolist artist of the 1920-ies, which took the ideas of the Renaissance, a little simplified and made more symbolic in his paintings. And so it turned out my decorations simple, bright, expressive. And their background, there are elaborate costumes, which take us back to the Renaissance».

According to the artist, he brings some changes in a play, which turned out to be, removed some details that seemed superfluous, and as for the costumes, tried to was the characters and to the actors was in them to move freely.

«I can not say a few words about the workshops of the Bolshoi theater — very comfortable, perfectly equipped, with natural light, employing real talents,» said Hudson.

Premiere performances will take place from 22 to 26 November.

Rehearsing the main roles: Ekaterina Krysanova, Anastasia Stashkevich, Evgenia Obraztsova (Juliet), Vladislav Lantratov, Vyacheslav Lopatin, Semyon Chudin (Romeo), Igor Tsvirko, Anton Savichev, Arthur Mkrtchyan (Mercutio).
