The number of suicides of suspects, defendants and convicts in Russia in 2012 decreased by 32%, said first Deputy Director of Federal service of execution of punishments (FSIN) Anatoly Rudy on the opening of an international penitentiary forum «Crime, penalty, correction».

According to him, the leadership of the Federal penitentiary service pays particular attention to the preservation and maintenance of mental health staff and persons who are in places of deprivation of liberty, for this purpose psychologists.

«The result of integrated work was a significant reduction of suicides of suspects, defendants, convicted on 32% in comparison with 2012,» said Rudy.

He noted that psychologists provide assistance, participate in prevention of emergencies, conduct research, discuss the situation and psychological climate in the institutions of criminal-Executive system, which allows to identify problems and respond appropriately. Diagnostic examination every year are subjected to 99% of suspects, accused persons, convicted persons, which allows to identify the methods of psychological influence on each person, make recommendations and identify the propensity for destructive behavior.

Prevention activities the number of suicides among the employees of the FSIN in 2012-2016 decreased by 48% and growing the last four years. 20% decrease in the number of staff, consisting on the preventive account from psychologists.
