Latvia should not be politically to respond to the issue in Russia banknote with the image of the Crimea in order not to look ridiculous in the international arena, said on air of radio Baltkom Deputy of the Parliament of Latvia, member of the parliamentary Commission on foreign Affairs Sergei Potapkin.

Previously, a number of Latvian politicians reacted negatively to the release in Russia of the banknote with the image of the Crimea, considering it a provocation by Moscow. In particular, there were proposals to limit the use of this money in the EU.

«You have to understand that any value of any provocation is in the subsequent reaction to it. If all seek the provocation, in this case it is necessary to limit the sale of National Geographic maps. They were one of the first printed maps with Crimea as part of Russia. Then you need to limit the circulation of Chinese national passports, which shows areas that do not already belong to China,» said Potapkin.

The MP believes that Latvia should not look for a problem where there is none.

«If we ogrenim the circulation of foreign currencies, we find ourselves in a ridiculous situation. I don’t think it will come in France, USA or Germany. And for those who thinks this is a blatant provocation, I would recommend to stock up on banknotes of the new sample, because at some point they may become numismatic rarity», — concluded the politician.

In October, the Bank of Russia put into circulation new banknotes of 200 and 2 thousand rubles. On the banknote 200 rubles depicts the territory of the Crimea, the Tauric Chersonesos and monument to the scuttled ships in Sevastopol.

Latvian financial institutions stated that they did not plan to refuse to accept the new banknotes.
