On Tuesday in Prague held a rally, dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the birth of Marshal Ivan Konev.

It accounted for more than hundreds of residents of Prague and a number of prominent politicians. They called on the authorities of the district Prague 6 not to spoil the monument to Marshal any additional inscriptions and to honor the heroism of the soldiers of the red Army liberated Czechoslovakia from the Nazis in 1945.

Earlier, representatives of the district administration, on which territory is located the monument, stated that the correct inscription on it. In their opinion, there must be not only stated his achievements in the liberation of Prague from the Nazis, but also mentioned that led by Marshal troops brutally suppressed 1956 uprising in Hungary. The mayor of the district Oldrich Kolar wrote a letter to the Russian Embassy, which stated that in its current form, the monument does not meet the actual situation. He demanded to remove him from the area Brigades, for example, on the territory of the diplomatic mission.

«This proposal is genuine vandalism, invasion history, attempting to distort it after the fact. They show only that the following newfangled political course, some people in the Czech Republic tend to forget who liberated them from fascism, to sow the seeds of misunderstanding and confusion in the relationship with the people of Russia,» said RIA Novosti first Deputy head of the Communist party of Bohemia and Moravia Josef Skala.

Similar thoughts are expressed in their speeches at the rally a number of prominent politicians. So, the Chairman of the Czech Union of freedom fighters Yaroslav Vodicka reminded the audience that 140 thousand red Army soldiers killed during the liberation of Czechoslovakia.

Granddaughter of Marshal Konev, Elena and Anna, thanked the Czech people for taking care of numerous graves of the red army on the territory of the Republic, for the memory of their illustrious grandfather.

«If you only knew how loved our grandfather Czechoslovakia, as he was proud that his troops helped free from fascism! Ivan Stepanovich often came to Karlovy vary for rest and treatment and always tried to visit while in Prague, walking the loved, familiar in may 1945, the districts of this beautiful city,» said Elena Koneva.

The protesters urged the authorities of the district to prevent the barbaric treatment of the monument, reiterated the contribution headed by Konev military units in the liberation of the Czech capital.
