The Russian Orthodox Church at the meeting of the bishops Council finally sets the permissible number of marriages for believers, on Wednesday at a press conference in MIA «Russia today» told the Deputy Chairman Department for external Church relations of the Moscow Patriarchate Archpriest Nikolai Balashov.

The Cathedral, dedicated to the celebration of the restoration of the Patriarchate in the Russian Orthodox Church, will be held in Moscow at the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour under chairmanship of Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill on 29 November to 4 December. The Council of bishops is one of the highest management bodies of the ROC.

«How many times are allowed to marry and whether it is necessary to consider only the marriage, which was consecrated a Church wedding, or those that were made in the civil order, in the registry office? A clear answer in the current ecclesiastical law does not have, and how to interpret the existing canonical norms in the new environment, when marriage is much more than blessed in Church, there are different answers. The decision will be made at the Council,» said the priest.

The document «Church marriage» was considered in the ROC for several years. According to the Deputy head of the Moscow Patriarchate Archimandrite Savva (Tutunov) in the first place it was about the existing canonical norms in a single text.

«Church law on marriage up to this point we mainly relied on the provisions adopted in the 18th and 19th centuries. Some things need to adapt to modernity, to prescribe the formulas and procedures,» — said Archimandrite Savva.
