The abolition of roaming charges between Russia and Belarus will be discussed at the meeting of the Union Council of Ministers in Gomel on 8 December of 2017, said the state Secretary of the Union state of Russia and Belarus Grigory Rapota.

At the end of June the question of the abolition of roaming between the countries were discussed at the meeting of the Supreme state Council of the Union state of Belarus and Russia. The head of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko suggested by analogy with the European Union to cancel the roaming on the territory of the Union state and asked to write a legal assignment to study this matter with the operators of the Ministers of the two States. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko supported the initiative, stating that he is ready to give corresponding commissions to the government. The head of the RF Ministry of communications Nikolay Nikiforov said that the Ministry is already working with the operators of the abolition of roaming between the two countries, but it all depends on the operators.

«The decision (on the abolition of roaming charges – ed.) was adopted at the government level, it is fulfilled at the level of ministries of communication. We have asked the Ministry of communications, attracted their attention that there is such an order. This assignment was not only in the forum of regions, but also by the presidents it sounded. Therefore, it is necessary to perform this task,» — said Rapota on the sidelines of the Russian-Belarusian forum «New direction for humanitarian partnership in the Union state» held in MIA «Russia today».

He noted that the «primary exchange of views among ministries and experts showed that this topic is not easy and it affects many economic interests, the real players in this market.»

«But, nevertheless, the experience of entering the free roaming exists in the European Union. This problem is not fully resolved, but it partly solved, and interesting enough this experience. This experience should be taken into account. So working on this issue, but so far the results can not say anything because we are not informed,» — said Rapota.

In this regard, he did not rule out that the abolition of roaming charges between Russia and Belarus will be discussed at the Council of Ministers of the Union state in Gomel in December.

«Affected will be discussed – no,» Rapota said, answering the question whether the abolition of roaming charges to be discussed during the meeting of the Union Council of Ministers in Gomel on 8 December 2017.
