Purchase Turkey air defense missile systems (anti-aircraft missile system) s-400 from Russia does not mean the rotation policy of Ankara in the opposite direction from the direction of NATO, said Turkish foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu.

«Turkey is one of the founding members of the Alliance and have always made a huge contribution to its work. She was available to assist in all recent calls, to which was NATO», — he said, answering the question about the willingness of Ankara to continue cooperation with NATO in light of the purchase of Russian missile systems.

«Turkey wants to protect its airspace, around us a lot of threats, and we must strengthen our security, we need a system of defense,» — said the Minister during a press conference in Rome with his Italian counterpart Angelino Alfano.

According to Cavusoglu, Turkey wanted to give NATO a priority in the supply of arms, but Ankara has concluded that they resist even in regard to the export of small arms.

«We are not the first country that bought the missile defense system from Russia, there are others: why is everyone always talking about Turkey? Say Turkey moving away from Europe and toward Russia. During the crisis the foreign Ministers of foreign countries advised us to restore the broken relationship with Russia, why do we abuse it now and not then?», — said the Turkish foreign Ministry.
