Innovation unit of Kazan Federal University SAE «Ekoneft ‘» signed an agreement with major oil and gas company of China PetroChina on a joint project for the underground processing of oil, the press service of the University.

«Currently, we are conducting jointly with Xinjiang oil company (a division of PetroChina) and southwest petroleum University (SWPU) six projects to study the oxidation of light and heavy oils on Keramiska field of China. In addition to these, during the last meeting with our partners, it was agreed on the implementation of the project in the use of catalysts to underground oil refining», — the press service quoted the words of the head of the SAI «Ekoneft ‘» Mikhail Varfolomeyev.

According to him, within implementation of the project will include several phases, including the development of new catalysts, testing, modeling of the action of catalysts using unique equipment of KFU (pipes burning). The final step is to field application of catalysts on Keramiska field.

It is assumed that all four stages of the project will be completed by the end of next year. In parallel, the parties plan to launch a joint project to monitor the combustion front. PetroChina is preparing for a large-scale test of in-situ combustion in Keramiska field, the key is the question of monitoring the entire process.

In addition, as noted, the development of researchers SAE «Ekoneft ‘» in the field of refining of crude oil under the ground and became interested in the Northwest oil company (a division of Sinopec). According to Varfolomeyev, North-Western oil company is interested in the search for new hydrocarbon deposits and underground refining oil Tahoe – one of the largest fields owned by Sinopec. Scientists of Kazan Federal University presented its developments in the measurement of magnetic fields with the subsequent interpretation of the obtained data, as well as technologies for improving the oil inside the reservoir and on the ground. «Our projects they are interested in, in the near future, we plan to discuss in more detail the possibility of their application», — he said.

Manual SAE «Ekoneft ‘» also discussed with representatives of the company for the protection of the intellectual property issues of patenting their developments not only in Russia but also abroad.

SAE «Ekoneft ‘» is a strategic academic unit, the innovation unit of the Kazan Federal University that combines the tasks of scientists in seven institutes of the University, including Geology, physics, ecology, chemical and others. SAE was established in March of 2016. Field of activities: search and development of new technologies of search, extraction and processing of oil and gas, including shale oil, bitumen, heavy oil, research into alternative energy sources, etc. Cooperating with several international companies, including Ecopetrol (Colombia), Cupet (Cuba), Baker Hughes (U.S.), Occidental Petroleum Corporation (USA), Haldor Topsoe (Denmark) and others, and also the Russian LUKOIL, Zarubezhneft, Gazprom, Rosneft, Tatneft.
