Russia concerned by US plans to deploy missile defense elements in the Asia region, it does not promote security, said the Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov.

«Of particular concern are the plans of the United States, which is already actively being implemented in practice, to deploy elements of a global system of us missile defense in the region. And drew attention to the extremely negative impact of these actions on security in the Asia-Pacific region,» Lavrov said at a press conference after talks with his Japanese counterpart Taro Kono.

In July 2016, after five months of negotiations, the U.S. and South Korea agreed on the deployment of THAAD, which would, if necessary, to intercept ballistic missiles of North Korea.

THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense) is designed for high-altitude natmosphere intercept missiles, allegedly of small and medium range. The deployment of THAAD concern China and Russia. Japan expressed approval of these plans, noting that the location of the THAAD will contribute to peace and stability in the region.
