Five leaders of an ethnic organized criminal group accused of stealing more than 90 million rubles from Moscow pensioners under the guise of sales of water filters, will appear before the court, said the official representative of the Russian Ministry of internal Affairs of Irina Volk.

Earlier it was reported that the defendants stole more than 90 million rubles by selling household water filters to pensioners, veterans and persons with disabilities, concluded with them fictitious credit agreements. The structure of the criminal group consisted of more than 35 participants, and its organizers were natives of the North Caucasus Federal district, and also inhabitants of Georgia and Armenia.

«The main investigative Department of GU MVD of Russia in Moscow completed a preliminary investigation of the criminal case against five leaders of the criminal community in creating an organized group to steal money from socially unprotected layers of the population under the guise of sales of water filtration systems… On this fact brought criminal case on signs of the crime provided by article 159 of the criminal code,» she said.

Wolf added that currently five to the organizers charged, the criminal case was submitted in the Zelenograd district court of Moscow for consideration on the merits.

As noted by Wolf in July this year, a preliminary investigation against two members of the criminal community was completed. The court found the defendants guilty and has appointed punishment in the form of deprivation of liberty for a term from four to six years. In September 2016 the suspects were prosecuted under article 210 of the criminal code «organization of criminal community or participation in it». Also in October, was sent to court a criminal case against the 11 partners.
