The Prime Minister and Vice President of the UAE, ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum ordered the release of 606 prisoners from punitive institutions in Dubai, according to Khaleej Times.

The decision was made in honor of the 46th anniversary of the unification of the Emirates in a single state, which the UAE will be celebrated on December 2.

The country employees of public and private companies will receive additional days off.

The Treaty on the Union of six Emirates formerly under British protectorate, was signed on 2 December 1971. The seventh Emirate, RAS al-Khaimah, joined the Federation in 1972.
