The majority of Russians consider it necessary to make traffic rules (SDA) and the basics of military training mandatory school subjects, but teaching the basics of religion and secular ethics I propose to leave the choice to parents and students, the survey showed the all-Russia centre of studying of public opinion (VTSIOM).

The head of the Department of research VTSIOM Stepan Lvov, commenting on the findings, noted that «a request to the General education system is very pragmatic».

«The objects aimed at nurturing spirituality in the school environment, was among the outsiders. Essence of today’s challenge to researchers to investigate the nature of the skepticism of the Russians in relation to humanitarian issues: is it a signal of distrust of the school system, or is the conviction that issues of spiritual education and citizenship needs to engage other institutions, or just a sign of pragmatism in a society bordering on cynicism» — the expert believes.

A nationwide survey «polls-Sputnik» was held on November 18-19, 2017 among 1.2 thousand respondents over 18 years. Survey method – telephone interviews, the statistical error does not exceed 3.5%.
