. The alleged tomb of Jesus Christ in the Church of the Resurrection in Jerusalem was really built during the time of Constantine the Great, first Christian Emperor of Rome, and survived to our time, despite repeated attempts to destroy it, according to popular science magazine National Geographic.

«It is interesting that the samples of cement that are open to us in this tomb, not only helped us to find traces of the very first option, but confirm that it has been updated several times and rebuilt in the next century,» said Anthony Moropoulou (Antonia Moropoulou), the head of the excavation from the National technological University of Athens (Greece).

How to tell a medieval chronicle, the alleged tomb of the founder of Christianity was discovered in the fourth century of our era by the Empress Helena, mother of Emperor Constantine, converted to Christianity, and who moved the capital of the Roman Empire from Rome to Constantinople in 330 ad.

Roman architects and sculptors built a temple complex around this tomb that has survived in this form until the early 11th century, after which it was completely destroyed by Arab invaders, which, according to medieval legends, was the occasion for launching the first crusade in 1095.

After the conquest of Jerusalem by the crusaders reconstructed the buildings of this tomb and built the Church of the Resurrection, and in this form it has survived to our time. For a long time it was believed that all traces of the original tomb was destroyed, but last year, archaeologists who carried out the restoration of the temple and uncovered the tombstone, installed on the grave of Christ, in 1555, were able to find the Foundation of the original tomb and find the first hints that it still exists.

Scientists have tried to verify this actually splits a few fragments of mortar, which was sealed the stone Foundation and a second, more ancient gravestone, was found in October 2016. Historians have calculated the age of this marble construction and cement, by measuring how much radioactive elements disintegrated inside the crystals of sand trapped inside that solution hundreds of years ago.

As shown by these measurements, the tomb was built around 345 ad, during the reign of Constantine and his sons Constantine II and Constantius II. This, according to archaeologists, is a serious argument in favor of the fact that this tomb could actually be built by Constantine and his mother Helen.

On the other hand, as the scientists, yet they have no evidence that in the cave, hidden under the stove, really Jesus was buried – much of the cave remains buried under the stones of the original tomb and later buildings erected in the middle ages.

Further study of these artifacts, as I hope the archaeologists will help to understand whether in it lay the remains of Christ, and to reveal other details of its construction and how often it was destroyed and rebuilt in 17 centuries of its existence.
