Patriarch Kirill urged the clergy of the Russian Orthodox Church not to give rise to scandals, denouncing the vices of society without humiliation of people and «mentoring tone».

«Today it is clear that part of society will react negatively to what is happening in the Church, and it will be reflected including in the media. …Of course, the negative reaction is amplified by the objective misdeeds, shortcomings, careless words or actions of certain priests. Unfortunately, sometimes there are clerics that give rise occasion. Conflicts, scandals spread like lightning and we live in the information space over a long period of time, and the effect of positive publications is often short-term,» said the Patriarch to the participants of the hierarchical Council of the ROC.

The language of preaching is, according to the Patriarch, «language of love». In an address to the clergy, the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church noted that he was sad when the testimony of divine truth, «the only failure because we chose the wrong tone or the wrong shape.»

«Proclaiming or defending the truths of the gospel, we should be careful in choice of words. You should rebuke sin, but not to humiliate the person. Recalling the disastrous consequences of departing from God’s will, we don’t have its temerity to push people to the edge of the abyss,» he said.
