Russian Ambassador to the USA Anatoly Antonov has agreed with the compatriots in San Francisco to continue contacts in the field of preservation of the Russian cultural-historical heritage and the Russian language in California, despite the closure of the Russian Consulate.

He stated this at a meeting in the Office of the Congress of compatriots in San Francisco, where, in particular, took part ex-honorary Consul in Sacramento Natalia Owen and head of the coordinating Council of Russian compatriots and the President of the Congress of Russian Americans Natalie Sabelnik.

«My goal is that we kept constant contact. That was not so — came, talked and forgotten. Moreover, once the Consulate General we have (closed at the initiative of the USA) now, it is a great misfortune for us,» the Ambassador said.

He added that he intends to end his visit, to discuss with businessmen from Russia and the US specific projects for the conservation of cultural and historical heritage and the Russian language in California, which could be supported by a business establishment of the two countries. In particular, projects on creation of the center for preservation of the Russian heritage and support one of the largest in the U.S. Russian-language schools in Sacramento.

«I want to have with you all specifically. Here we are talking about a specific project, you need to think and talk about how the Embassy can help you to solve your questions,» — said Antonov.

The Russian Ambassador on Wednesday arrived in California, where from November 29 to December 3, will hold meetings with the expert and business communities, and will examine Russian departmenst in San Francisco. As reported earlier, the Russian Embassy in the United States, in the program «meetings with compatriots, expert and business circles, performances in universities, examination of the Russian diplomatic property in San Francisco, a visit to Fort Ross.»

In early September, the Russian Consulate General in San Francisco, and a sales office in Washington and offices of trade mission of new York was transferred to the U.S. side at the request of the state Department. The state Department previously demanded to close the Russian Consulate in San Francisco, building of the trade mission in Washington and rent, trade mission in new York until 2 September, citing the response to the Russian proposal to reduce the number of employees of the US diplomatic mission in Russia. Access to the building of the Consulate General for the Russian diplomats actually closed.
