Crimea will remain part of Russia, this topic is closed once and for all, said Russian foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in an interview with the Italian newspaper «Libero».

«As for the second part of your question, the topic is closed once and for all,» said he, answering the question remains whether Crimea is forever a part of Russia.

«Let me remind you that we are talking about a free, democratic will of the inhabitants of Crimea, who made a conscious choice in favor of peace and prosperity. This form of realization of the right to self-determination was the only possible way to protect the vital interests of the people in the face of rampant radical nationalist elements in Ukraine that came to power as a result of their act in February 2014 coup,» — said Lavrov.

«It is clear today that the referendum expressed the will of the residents allowed them to avoid the horrors of civil war – that for more than three years, the Kiev authorities are doing in Donbass», — the Minister added.
