The Council of bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church gave an assessment letter from the leader of the self-proclaimed «Kiev Patriarchate» to pardon him and bring him back to the bosom of the Russian Orthodox Church.

«The Cathedral is pleased with the appeal as a step towards overcoming the schism and the restoration Church fellowship on the part of those who have fallen away from the unity with the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church», — is spoken in the determinations of the Council «the conversion of the former Metropolitan of Kiev and all Ukraine Filaret».

«After twenty-five bitter years of strife, violence, mutual hatred, resentment and strife that arose in the Ukrainian Orthodoxy and Ukrainian society as a result of the split, appears finally able to embark on the path of restoring unity», — stated in the decision of the Council of the Russian Orthodox Church.

In 1992, Metropolitan Filaret (Denisenko) of Kiev had previously taken the chair, and after the death of Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Pimen in 1990, he was elected Locum Tenens of the Patriarchal throne. Not satisfied with provided Ukrainian Church independence and autonomy in the management of the Moscow Patriarchate, Filaret is first required for her autocephaly, but without the consent of, created and legally registered so-called Kiev Patriarchate. None of the canonical local Orthodox Churches, its legitimacy is not recognized.
