U.S. pressure on Europe to stop gas projects of the Russian Federation, said the Federation Council

The US is trying to stop gas projects of the Russian Federation in European countries, exerting political influence on the leadership of these States, told RIA Novosti on Thursday the first Deputy head of the economic Committee of the Federation Council Sergei Kalashnikov.

Informed the Danish Parliament approved a law that allows the country to ban the construction of «Nord stream-2» in its territorial waters. Besides refusing on the grounds of environmental protection and safety, it is now proposed to take into account the issues of foreign policy and defence at the decision whether to grant consent for the laying of power cables and pipelines in the territorial waters of Denmark.

«Of course, the position of Denmark has a specific meaning, although the project pipeline will go to Germany. However, the part of the project will go along the Danish-Swedish border. And this can lead to more expensive project,» — said Kalashnikov.

According to him, is a competitive war, «the United States would like to monopolize the supply to Europe of its liquefied natural gas… replacing the cheaper gas supplied by pipeline from Russia.»

The decision of the Danish Parliament, the Kalashnikov has described as «a victory of lobbying commercial interests of the United States». According to the Senator, «the United States of dumping, exert political pressure on the leadership of the European countries.»

In the situation of «Nord stream-2,» said Kalashnikov, a lot will depend on Germany’s position, however, «the authorities of Germany an opinion on this issue».

The project «Northern stream-2» involves the construction of two pipelines with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of gas off the coast of Russia through the Baltic sea to Germany. The new pipeline is planned to be build next to the «Nord stream». Against the implementation of the project, a number of countries, in particular Ukraine, which fears to lose the income from the transit of Russian gas, the US has ambitious plans to export to Europe its LNG.

The operator of the project with a total value of 9.5 billion euros is the company 2 the Nord Stream AG, the sole shareholder of which is Gazprom. European partners — Shell, OMV, Engie, Uniper and Wintershall — have committed to financing the «Nord stream-2» in total 50%, ie 950 million euros each. «Gazprom» will provide the other half of the funds to 4.75 billion euros.
