The total sales of the 100 largest manufacturers in the world arms and military services in 2016 as a whole grew by 1.9 percent in 2015, while Russia and the US increased its arms sales. On Monday announced the Stockholm international Institute for peace studies (SIPRI) published its annual rating of the hundred largest military–industrial companies in the world.

Arms sales in 2016 rose for the first time after five years continuous fall of these volumes, analysts said. American companies included in «Top 100», increased its share in the total volume of arms sales by 4.0%. The total U.S. share of global arms sales was 57.9 %. Western European companies increased their combined sales by 0.2%. The overall growth of sales of Russian companies listed among the 100 largest in the world, made in 2016, according to estimates by SIPRI, 3.8 per cent, the experts said the slowdown.

«The economic difficulties faced by Russia in 2016, contributed to the slowdown of the arms sales of Russian companies,» — said senior researcher of the SIPRI Simon Wezeman.

The share of Russia in the world sales as a whole was 7.1%.

Highlighted this year experts SIPRI, the company, which they attributed to the category of «new manufacturers». They are located in Brazil, India, South Korea and Turkey. When this topped the list of emerging market manufacturers in South Korea increased last year sales by 20.6 %.

The 100 largest manufacturers

As in previous years, continue to dominate the ranking of companies from the US and Western Europe (63 firms out of 100). The number of Russian companies in the SIPRI list has dropped from 11 in 2015 to 10 in 2016.

First place in «Top 100» SIPRI, as years earlier, is the American concern Lockheed Martin. Second, as according to the previous two years, also given to the concern of the United States – Boeing, closes the top three is another American company Raytheon, pushed to fourth place by British BAE Systems.

On 13-th place from the 17th in the ranking of 2015 has raised the Russian company «United aircraft Corporation». 15th (in 2015) for 19th place fell to Russian «United shipbuilding Corporation», «Almaz-Antey» took the list in 24th place (26th in 2015), «Russian Helicopters» has shifted from 24 to 29.

Database of military industries was established in the Institute SIPRI in 1989 and includes financial information and information about employment in global companies engaged in military production. Under the sale of weapons experts mean the sale of military goods and services to military customers both in the domestic market and for export.

Since 1990, statistics for arms manufacturers included in the SIPRI Yearbook, the next issue which will be presented in 2018.
