The European Jewish Congress (EJC) has expressed disappointment with the statement issued by the EU high representative Federica Mogherini on the status of the recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Earlier, Mogherini called on Israel not to wait for the transfer of EU embassies in Jerusalem. She also recalled that the European Union adheres to the international consensus on the status of Jerusalem and will not change position until the Israelis and Palestinians do not agree on the final status of the city.

«While the EU calls for a balanced approach to solving the question of Jerusalem’s status, in fact, we see a constant roll to the side at least ignore the centuries of relations of the great city with the Jewish people, when the EU mistakenly took the side of Palestine, including support for the UN resolution, in fact, denying the historical connection of the Jews to Jerusalem», — quotes the press service of the President EEK Vyacheslav Moshe Kantor.

According to him, Mogherini’s statement would be more constructive if the EU «showed more interest to the statements (statements) to the Palestinian side calling for the extermination of the Jews and their state, extension of payments to the Palestinian authority and families of terrorists, incitement to hatred in the educational programs and appropriation of the streets names of mass murderers».

«The EU should have expressed «serious concern» for these issues, and less about the ad on the recognition of the legal and legitimate requirements of Israel to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of the Jewish state. The EU should give priority to peace by ensuring that the Palestinians stop supporting terrorism, inciting hatred and non-recognition policy,» stressed Kantor.

Last week, the President of the United States Donald trump announced the recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and signed a document about migrating to this city of the American Embassy from tel Aviv. The decision of the us leader was well received in Israel and aroused a negative reaction from many countries, primarily countries in the Middle East and Palestine. Throughout the Muslim world, including in Israel, the protests, which injured hundreds of people.
