Russia has the right to request the case materials associated with the Russian Senator Suleiman Kerimov, the corresponding query has already been prepared and will be handed over to the French side in the near future, said Russian Prosecutor General Yury Chaika during a visit to the headquarters of Interpol in Lyon.

«There is an international mechanism: if a citizen of Russia, committing a crime on the territory of another country, we have the right to request the materials of the criminal case in order to attract this man, if he committed a crime already in the country, in accordance with our legislation,» — said Chaika, making comments on a situation with the Senator.

According to the public Prosecutor, «is not quite the right practice, when people with a special status so easily can be arrested, even on suspicion of any serious crime».

«In my opinion, it is wrong. Must be some mechanisms, constraints, as it represents the interests of a large group of the population, he’s a Senator, elected people,» — said the Prosecutor General.

According to Chaika, the query has already been prepared and will be handed over to the French side in the coming days
