The Chairman of the Federal political Committee of the party «Yabloko» Grigory Yavlinsky said that he sees the meaning of his participation in the presidential elections in 2018 in the presence of an alternative to the current policy.

«The meaning is not in percent, but rather to present some sort of alternative. The way in which the country is going, leads to a cliff,» said Grigory Yavlinsky to journalists, answering a question on what percentage the election, he expects.

«If a lot of people would support policy changes, they will happen,» he added.

Regular elections of the President of Russia will be held in March 2018, the campaign is supposed to start in December 2017. Last week, acting President Vladimir Putin announced his intention to run in the upcoming elections.

Besides Putin and Yavlinsky, the intention to run in the upcoming elections, said the journalist and TV presenter Ksenia Sobchak, who is positioning himself as the candidate «against all», the political scientist Andrey Bogdanov and one of the founders of the movement «Nashi» Boris Yakimenko. Communist party leader Gennady Zyuganov said that he, as leader of the Communist party, was nominated as the presidential candidate of all party organizations, but the final decision of the Congress.

Candidates intend to stand and journalist Catherine Gordon, head of the Association of entrepreneurs for development of business of patriotism «Avanti» Rahman Yanakov, the leader of the party «Female dialogue» Elena Semerikova, the businessman Sergey Polonsky. The President of the National parent Committee Irina Volynets and the leader of movement «the Renaissance» Alexander Chukhlebov, Director of the Institute of political sociology Vyacheslav Smirnov and expert in the field of social psychology Mikhail Kozlov also announced their presidential ambitions.
