More than 2 thousand people were evacuated in the Northern Italian region of Emilia-Romagna due to heavy rains, which in some areas led to a sharp increase in the level of rivers and floods, said on Tuesday evening the head of the regional service of Civil defense (CD) Maurizio Mainetti.

According to him, the rescue operation involved helicopters and amphibious ATVs that can move both on land and on water. The evacuation of the affected, above all, town Lentigione, where they had been evacuated about a thousand residents, and the town of Boretto up to where the elements had to be rescued more than a thousand citizens.

The evacuation was caused by the fact that a right tributary of the Po river Ence due to heavy rains overflowed and broke the dam, defending several settlements in the province of Reggio Nell’emilia. Firefighters and officers had had to rescue people and animals in several areas of Emilia-Romagna, but to the mass evacuation of more anywhere is not reached. Mainetti, stressed that none of the inhabitants of the region were not wounded.

The storm struck at Italy on Monday, when many Northern provinces were heavy snowfalls and torrential rains.
