It is necessary to adopt a law on state support of mass media, which could provide and support measures in terms of tariffs for communication services for print publications, said the head of the presidential Council on human rights (HRC) Mikhail Fedotov.

The problems of tariff policy of «Mail of Russia» were discussed Wednesday at the meeting of the temporary Commission of the Federation Council on the information policy and interaction with mass media. The head of the HRC noted that earlier in Russia was a law from 1996 on state support of mass media and book publishing in Russia.

He recalled that Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly said that the necessary legislative measures to ensure economic support for freedom of the media.

«But, unfortunately, the state Duma did not prepared. Just copy the 1996 act is not necessary, but such a law is needed, really. There may be provided and measures in terms of tariffs for communication services, which are primarily the printed media», — said Fedotov.
