The United States expressed concern over the decision of the Polish authorities fined a private channel for their coverage of the demonstrations outside the Parliament building in December 2016 and provide for in this decision, the violation of media freedom, said the U.S. state Department spokesman Heather Nauert.

In December 2016 in Warsaw, the mass demonstrations against President Andrzej Duda and his new government were held on the square in front of the Parliament building.

Polish opposition blocked the work of the Seimas of the country due to the intentions of Parliament from 2017 to restrict the work of journalists in the lower house of Parliament, as well as the decision of the speaker of the Sejm Marek Kuchcinski to dismiss one of the deputies from participating in the meeting. Despite this, Parliament in the session held in another room, passed a number of laws, including the budget for 2017, the opposition believes these voting illegitimate.

On Tuesday, the Polish media reported that State television and radio broadcasting Council decided TVN to pay a fine in the amount of about 352 thousand euros for the «coverage of events around the Polish Parliament (Sejm) on December 16-18».
